Drawn to the pond

Reflections

So they say

They say I should be objective

Remain professional and calm

Not let this work affect me

Too much, lest it leads to harm

They say I should let you grieve

Support you when you cry

But not let emotion escape

Too often, lest you ask me why

They say hurting people hurt people;

Is that why I sometimes feel bruised?

They say empathy’s your pain in my heart;

                        Is that why my heart aches when used?

They say kindness has a ripple effect,

                        Is that why I’m drawn to the pond?

They say love’s echoes are endless;

                        Is that what I hear from beyond?

They say we have five senses

I should attend to all of yours

But not worry about mine

Too often, lest other’s that ignores

But if you want me to understand

To help you find meaning in what you face

I must question what they say

Too often, and instead bring grace

            They say hurting people hurt people;

                        Then I choose, with grace, to be bruised

            They say empathy’s your pain in my heart; 

                        Then I choose, with graceful heart, to be used 

            They say kindness has a ripple effect

                        So I’m not alone at the pond

They say love’s echoes are endless;

                        So together we go above and beyond.
